Prescriptions

Ordering Repeat Prescription

You can request a repeat prescription using one of the following methods:

  1. Via SystmOnline – To enable you to use this system, you need to be registered for SystmOnline. Please call the surgery for more details.
  2. Via e-consult – this method is only available during practice opening hours. You do not need an NHS App account to be able to order using this method. You can access the e-consult service via our website at www.oldflettonsurgery.nhs.uk.
  3. Via the NHS App – available 24/7

You may see a message ‘No repeat prescriptions available to order’ on your NHS App, please note this is not a technical issue.

If you see this message, please do not worry.  This can mean:

  • It’s too early to order
  • You may have a repeat dispensing prescription (eRD) (explained below)
  • You need a medication review
  • The item may be an acute item (not on repeat)
  • In person – complete an order form, or write your request down on a piece of paper and either hand it in at the reception desk, or post through the letter box at the front entrance door (24/7).
  • By post – send a written request to the surgery

It is important that you list each item which you require individually and clearly.  We cannot accept requests which state “all medications” or “everything”.

Non-urgent advice: Please note

We do not take prescription requests over the telephone.

Exceptions for telephone requests

In exceptional circumstances, such as physically incapacitated or terminally ill, and unable to use one of the other ordering methods, telephone requests will still be accepted and be assessed on a case by case basis.

Prescription processing time

Please order your prescription at least 48 hours in advance of you needing them.  Your nominated pharmacy may need a further 48 hours to dispense your medication.

Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD)

You may be eligible for the Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) service if your medication is stable.  This service allows a batch of prescriptions to be issued, typically covering 6 to 12 months, in advance and sent directly to your nominated pharmacy.  You can then go directly to the Pharmacy to collect your medication without needing to order it at the Surgery first.  The Pharmacy will let you know when you need to re-order a further batch prescription from us.

Nominated Pharmacy

Repeat medication prescriptions are sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy, so you do not need to come to the surgery to collect your prescription.  You will therefore be asked who you wish to nominate as your pharmacy.

Medication review

Your medications will be reviewed at least annually.  If you are due a medication review before your prescription is issued, our in-house Pharmacist will call you to do this with you.

Urgent prescription requests

If you have unexpectedly run out of your medication we will endeavour to produce prescriptions or dispense medicines for URGENT requests the same day.  Please contact the surgery using one of the available methods, and mark the request as URGENT.  Your request will be passed to our Pharmacist (or GP in the absence of a Pharmacist), who may call you to discuss your request. We kindly request however that you do not abuse the system and take responsibility yourself to ensure that you have sufficient supplies of your medication. Regular repeat URGENT requests may not be accommodated.
